Welcome to the website of the Local Government and Shires Associations of New South Wales (LGSA).
The Local Government Association of NSW and the Shires Association of NSW are the peak industry bodies for Local Government in NSW.
They have about 60 joint staff who implement Executive and Conference decisions and provide research support for the policy positions and standing committees of both Associations.

| Controversial changes to planning legislation in NSW were passed by the Legislative Council in the early hours of 18 June. A motion to refer the legislation to a Parliamentary Inquiry - which had been requested by the Associations and many other organisations - had been lost by just one vote. |

Nominations for the 2007/08 Excellence in Environment Awards are now open:
The awards are organised by the Associations and recognise councils' outstanding achievements in managing and protecting the environment. Entries close Friday, 12 September 2008.
